Here is the best of Brooksville's 1958 Yellow Pages. What better way to see how Brooksville lived in 1958 than looking through these pages. Here you will see all the old car dealers, restaurants, department stores, grocers and realtors among others. Like a Norman Rockwell painting, it will recall those early days when everything was downtown and it seemed as if everyone knew everyone. A look at typical small town America during the Eisenhower years. Those old enough to have lived through it, will remember those fond memories.

North Main Street (1958)

Some of the stores to the left are: Bacon's Drugs, Hancock's 5 & 10, A&P (soon to move to S. Main & Liberty) Weeks Hardware, Brooksville Sun-Journal and The Stork's Nest. On the right is the sign for Rogers' Department Store, next door to Hope's Drug Store.

A & P staff proudly pose in front of the Brooksville store (1958) on North Main. The following year the store would move to a new location on Main and Liberty.

Brooksville's first Publix located on N. Brooksville Avenue.

The El Motel located between Broad and Jefferson Street. Originally built in 1954, one of Brooksville's finest motels during the 1950s and 60s. Many celebrities stayed here, including country legend Eddy Arnold and many of the cast of the movie Deathdream, filmed in Brooksville.
