Best of the 1922 Hernando High Yearbook

Stories by Robert Martinez

This issue brings you the best of the very first Hernando High Yearbook. Even though Hernando High had been in existence since 1889, this was the first one, 23 years after its start. There are only about two or three known copies of the yearbook to exist. I was fortunate enough to receive a copy years from the late Ken Austin, at one time a Hernando High educator, principal and Superintendent of Schools. It is ironic that it took another 23 years before the next yearbook appeared in 1945. Since that time, yearbooks have been published every year. A special thanks to 1922 Senior class member, Katherine Schiller, the young artist who designed the artwork used for our Cover. You will recognize many students who later became some popular citizens. Regarding sports, you will notice the absence of a baseball and football team because of the shortage of students fielding a team. Both would resume in 1923.

We have tried to faithfully reproduce every facet of the yearbook featuring photos, classes, clubs, teams and information on the students. Enjoy this time capsule for the ages.
